The Joint Working Group (JWG) is a national network of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex) focused organisations. More information on the JWG can be found at http://www.jwg.org.za.

The JWG is seeking a motivated, dedicated, disciplined self-starter to provide administrative support to the organisation, its Management Committee and project teams. This is a full-time, 3 year contract position.

 

Position Summary 

Based at the Behind The Mask offices in Constitution Hill, the Co-ordinator will be accountable to the Management Committee of the JWG and be responsible for the general co-ordination and management of JWG activities and programme areas, in particular

  • Providing project and programme support
  • Setting up and maintaining effective communication strategies
  • Organising the meetings of the JWG, ManCom and project teams, where required
  • Coordination of the implementation of project plans
  • Undertaking assigned tasks related to the advocacy and communication activities of the JWG

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • A Bachelor degree or equivalent 
  • A minimum of three years of work experience in the LGBTI sector or a similar (human rights) field, managing programs to its implementation phase.
  • Sound knowledge of the issues facing the sector and a good understanding of gender and human rights sectors
  • Good inter-personal skills
  • Excellent planning, monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Independent thinker who is able to see the big picture
  • Proactive, sound judgement, good organizational skills and ability to remain calm under pressure;
  • Ability to work without constant supervision and be able to meet deadlines 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in the usage of computers and office software packages
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and knowledge of local languages
