| A Message to MCC Youth from Rev. Elder Arlene Ackerman and the MCC Youth Ministry Project Team MCC Youth Ministry Project 2008, Dominican Republic Mission Trip, June 21-28, 2008 Dear MCC Youth & Young Adults: It is with great joy that we announce MCC's Youth Ministry Project 2008 to the Dominican Republic. Young people who take part in the MCC Youth Ministry Project 2008 will work with a school in El Tamarindo, introduce a summer Bible school, and perform some light construction work and painting at the school. We will also meet and worship with a group of Dominicans working to plant an MCC church in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic.
While we pray this will be an enjoyable and memorable trip, the missions focus is to serve as disciples of Christ and participants will be expected to be dedicated and work together as a team. The youth and young adults will need to learn some beginning Spanish prior to the trip, learn about the various cultures in the Dominican Republic, and participate in training to work with children ages 3-14. Participants will also assist with minor construction work, painting, etc., at the school. Youth and young adults from ages 16 to 25 are eligible to apply. Space is limited to 15 youth and young adults. Five adults, including Cindy Acker and I, will be staffing the team. Four additional adults will be leading the maintenance project and will serve as adult advisors. The dates of the MCC Youth Ministry Project 2008 begin with the teams arrival in Miami, Florida on June 21 for a one-day orientation -- a required event. We will then fly as a group to the Dominican Republic on June 22. The team will return to Miami on June 28, with continued travel to your home locations. If you are interested in participating with us this summer, please request an application by emailing or calling Rev. Jen Glass. You will receive via email an application form, handbook, consent forms and other documents that must be read and completed as part of the application process. The application packet must include all completed forms, responses to the survey questions, and letters of recommendation. Your application MUST BE POSTMARKED BY February 15 and mailed to: MCC Youth Ministry Project MCC Region 3 Office Atttn: Rev. Jenn Glass P. O. Box 276 Landisville, Pennsylvania 17538 Tel. (610) 994-0270 Fax (717) 898-3714 No late applications will be considered. Important information: Applications are due by February 15, 2008. Notification letters will be sent March 15, 2008. Trip Dates: June 20 - June 28, 2008 Individual Cost: Each participant will be asked to raise $1800 USD. This figure includes airfare. Support for methods to raise the necessary funds will be provided to all participants. Mission members will also incur approximately $300 in incidental expenses. Some limited scholarship assistance will be available. Please do not let costs deter you from applying. We have found that prior MCC mission trips have been very successful in raising the necessary funding through their home congregations, family, and friends. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson, we have been able to keep the cost down and provide some grant money. We look forward to receiving your application! If you, your parents, or your pastor have any questions, please contact Rev. Jen Glass at the contact information below. Please be aware that you will need a passport and travel insurance to go on this trip, as well as a completed application and consent forms contained in the handbook. Sincerely, Arlene J.
