A Christmas Message from Rev. Nancy L. Wilson PDF Print E-mail

Rev. Nancy L. Wilson"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom God is pleased!"
Luke 2:14

Dear MCC Friends:

As Christmas approaches, I have peace on my mind, with new intensity. The peace I am talking about is not only inner peace, but peace in our world as well.

My simple thoughts today are these:

Peace is not passive, it is active. It "breaks out." It yearns to be realized. True peace takes deep commitment and self-discipline.

Peace is always built on a foundation of justice and wholeness, as Jesus and the prophets taught us. Peacemaking takes courage.

Peace is nearer than it has ever been! More people and organizations and resources are committed to peacemaking than ever in history -- this at a time when war and violence are epidemic and seemingly intractable.

Peace is a Christian -- and a spiritual -- vocation. It is at the heart of our faith to make peace with one another and with our Creator.

Peace is a pre-condition for ending poverty, HIV/AIDS and environmental degradation. War profiteering impoverishes many and deflects precious resources from the most pressing human needs. If no one made a profit from war, we would have very few of them.

God's dream of peace -- within and without -- is a dream worth living for. Our communities need peace; our churches and our homes need peace.

In this season, I am praying for peace for our world, for our global community of Metropolitan Community Churches -- and for you and your church.

You are precious to God and to all of us in MCC leadership. We are grateful beyond words for your dedication and faithfulness to our denomination and movement.

May the wild, untamable peace of Christ visit and inspire you as you make peace together!

In the Spirit of Hope that is Advent,
and the Spirit of Peace that is Christmas,

Nancy
